I love that new bands are able to record albums at a low cost while retaining more of their creative rights, but in return they have to be their own record label, producer, engineer, mixer, visual artist, promoter, distributor, booker, and tour manager. Since records don’t sell anymore, a ton of creative energy has to go above and beyond a physical record. There are so many amazing young musicians out there who might not be heard because they aren’t entrepreneurs. However, having control placed back into the hands of the artists and out of the hands of major labels could open up a new world of musical innovation.
